ODESSA, TX (KWES) - The United Way of Odessa kicked off their annual fundraising campaign on Tuesday.
It was a good turnout at the MLK Building Courtyard with donors and agencies all in attendance.
The campaign will run until Nov. 18.
The United Way supports local programs that impact the lives of one in every three Odessans.
Their goal this year is $2.5 million.
Hank Herrick, Executive Director of the United Way, said with the generous community, it's possible to reach their goal.
"A lot of folks say, 'boy, you're going to struggle to get that done!' But the fact of the matter is, they don't know the city of Odessa and the hearts of the citizens. I'm confident if we increase our campaigns and visits to the businesses, last year, we did 218, this year, we're doing 300. I think we can get to $2.5 million," said Herrick.
About 70 percent of the money raised at the United Way is from payroll deductions.
