MIDLAND- Football was not the biggest sport in the basin on Sunday afternoon. That honor belonged to BMX. Dozens of riders from all across the Lone Star State met in Midland on Sunday.
West Texas BMX held their annual state qualifier race.
Riders off all ages were on hand to compete in a variety of different races.
The guys at the track are all volunteers and they worked around the clock to get this thing up and ready for this afternoon.
The track is a non profit and the qualifier is the biggest day of the year for West Texas BMX since it accounts for the majority of their funding for the year.
"It's a great event for them, they'll have a good competitive day," Track Operator Don Davis said. The Olympics are coming up this week and BMX is obviously featured in the olympics, so hopefully we spur that on and some of the buzz from around the state definetly helps our local ridership."
"I like wathcing all the races go by, it's fun to see all the battles on the track and usually we have food trucks come, so the food's pretty good and stuff," Pro BMX Rider Chrystopher Davis said.
