Odessa police looking for masked men involved in armed home invasion

ODESSA, TX (KWES) - The Odessa Police Department is searching for five masked men, armed with rifles, who reportedly forced their way into an apartment and demanded property.

Just after midnight on Thursday, Odessa police were called out to Golden Crest Apartments on Tanglewood Ln. on a report of a home invasion.

Officers spoke to the two victims, a 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, who said five men with rifles forced their way into their apartment and demanded they hand over their belongings. One of suspects fired off one round that went through the floor into the apartment below. No injuries were reported.

"It's important to know that if someone robs you or someone or points a deadly weapon at you, you have the right to use whatever force necessary, including deadly force," said Cpl. Steve LeSueur with the Odessa Police Department. "However, it's not really worth you losing your life over a few hundred bucks. However you do have the right to defend yourself."

The men then fled with cell phones, cash and car keys.

The suspects are described as follows:

-Black male, about 5'7" and 150 lbs.
-Black male, about 5'9" and 160 lbs.
-Black male, about 5'9" and 150 lbs.
-Black male, about 5'8" and 155 lbs.
-Hispanic male, about 5'8" and 170 lbs.

"They are becoming more bold and it's unknown why. Obviously because of the economy we do see different patterns It's unknown why in this case why they're being so bold lately," said LeSueur.

The victims told police they have no idea who the suspects are.
