ODESSA, TX (KWES) - The University of Texas of the Permian Basin will be conducting an active shooter training drill on Saturday.
The drill will be conducted on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the UTPB Mesa Building.
As a result of the drill, drivers and residents may see numerous emergency vehicles including fire trucks, ambulances and patrol cars on campus during the drill.
School administrators said traffic control measures will be implemented throughout campus during the drill.
"The safety and welfare of our community is our highest priority," said Tom Hain, UTPB chief of police. "These type of training exercises allow us to assess our emergency response, interagency coordination and general readiness should an active shooter emergency occur."
The training exercise is being conducted in conjunction with the Odessa Police Department, the Ector County Sheriff's Office, Odessa Fire-Rescue, Department of Public Safety, U.S. Marshals, ECISD District Police Department, Midland College Police and Odessa College Police.
