ODESSA, TX (KWES) - Four people were taken to the hospital following a four car crash in Odessa on Tuesday afternoon.

The accident happened around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of University Blvd. and Andrews Highway.

An investigation revealed that a Blue Maxima, driven by Rachael Lucero, 38, was traveling northbound on Andrews Highway was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed.

Lucero tried to stop at the last second but collided with a blue Dodge Ram that was already stopped at the intersection.

That collision caused the Dodge Ram to hit a black Chevrolet Tahoe that was also waiting at the intersection.

Police said the impact of that collision also caused the Maxima to go airborne into oncoming traffic, hitting another Dodge Ram that was traveling southbound.

The driver of the Maxima was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Three others, Michael Hodges, 43, Shayanne Cardenez, 19, as well as a 14-year-old male were also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The intersection was closed for several hours following the accident but has since reopened.
