There were bound to be a few players or coaches at the Lone Star Conference that have crossed paths or who have worked with each other on the same staff.
That was the case for UTPB Head Coach Justin Carrigan on Thursday.
Carrigan began his coaching career at Midwestern State as a graduate assistant back in 2005 under Coach Bill Maskill's staff.
Carrigan was eventually promoted to passing game coordinator for the Mustangs.
11 years later, Carrigan is back in the Lone Star Conference where he will get to compete as a head coach against one of his mentors.
NewsWest 9 asked Coach Maskill what it feels like to see one of his pupils rise in the ranks.
"He's a pretty bright guy and learned quickly and he learned from one of the really good offensive minds," Maskill said. "His background, he's gotten better everywhere he's gone and now to get an opportunity to be a head coach in the league that he started in is a great accomplishment."
UTPB will play Midwestern State on October 29th in Wichita Falls.
