Lone Star Conference Media Day shines spotlight on UTPB Football

For the first time in school history, the UTPB football team participated in the Lone Star Conference football media day and it happened right in their own backyard.

ODESSA, TX (KWES) - For the first time in school history, the UTPB football team participated in the Lone Star Conference football media day and it happened right in their own backyard.

The conference came to the MCM Grande Fun Dome in Odessa on Thursday.

The Falcons will kick off their inaugural football season at home on September 3rd against Sul Ross State.

The Lone Star pre-season poll was released where UTPB came in 10th place with one first place vote and 49 total votes.

Despite the ranking, Head Coach Justin Carrigan and he's team are not concerned and are confident in their abilities as a football team.

"I don't think anybody's ever won a trophy from a preseason ranking," Carrigan said. "The most important thing to me is that our guys get better every week and that's the only thing I really care about."

"I've never been one to listen to outside sources like that," Junior Defensive Tackle Jared Thames said. "I know how I feel about that, I know what we're capable of and the rest of that stuff just doesn't affect me."

The Falcons will kick of the regular season on September 3rd against Sul Ross at home.
