Fort Stockton police arrest fugitive after Tuesday night standoff

FORT STOCKTON, TX (KWES) - Fort Stockton police arrested a federal fugitive after a police chase and a standoff Tuesday night.

Just after 11 p.m. Fort Stockton officers were sent to the area of 200 N. Texas St. after getting a call of gun shots.

Officers near the area could hear the gunfire and a suspected vehicle was immediately located.

After attempting to stop the car a chase ensued, during which officers were able to identify the driver as Ivan Ramos, 30.

After an approximately 30 minute pursuit, officers lost sight of the vehicle.

Investigation into Ramos revealed that he had an active federal warrant out for his arrest.

Just after midnight, authorities got a call from an unknown person stating that Ramos was hiding in a house in the 100 block of South Rooney St. The caller also said there were children as well as adult women in the house.

Officers established a perimeter around the house and the children were released unharmed.

The woman and a juvenile girl at first refused to leave, then later left the house on their own.

A negotiator with Fort Stockton police tried to talk to Ramos but was unsuccessful.

A tactical team made up of officers from the Fort Stockton Police Department and deputies from the Pecos County Sheriff's Office entered the house and arrested Ramos.

There were no injuries reported as a result of this incident.
