Xcel Energy warns of phone scam

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - Xcel Energy customers need to be wary of a new phone scam that is making the rounds.

Scammers are calling customers pretending to be Xcel Energy agents and threatening to turn off their power if they do not pay a supposed past-due amount over the phone.

The scammer often demands the payment be made using a pre-paid card.

If you think you're on the phone with a scammer hang up and contact an Xcel customer service agent.
