ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

Odessa police say officers had to use a Taser on a suspect after allegedly driving while intoxicated, evading arrest and using force against officers.

Authorities say officers saw a car with an expired registration driving in the 400 block of East 42nd St Monday evening.

When the car was pulled over, the officers could smell alcohol coming from the driver, Steven Redwine, 40.

After officers asked Redwine to get out of the car he began to evade, went to ground and tried to push himself off of them in order to break free.

According to police, Redwine only put his hands behind his back after officers used a taser on him.

Redwine was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, evading arrest or detention and resisting arrest.
