Fundraiser planned for victim of stabbing in Midland

The mood at the Summerhill Apartments Friday night was still somber after the death of Paul Cytulik Sr. Residents at the apartment complex decided to put together a fundraiser in his name.

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - The mood at the Summerhill Apartments Friday night was still somber after the death of Paul Cytulik Sr. Residents at the apartment complex decided to put together a fundraiser in his name.

Kenneth Moore, a resident said, "Paul would give the shirt off his back to people and it's time somebody did something for him."

The 66 year old was stabbed by the pool on Tuesday and later died from his injuries at the hospital. Moore said he was one of the first people to try and help Cytulik that night.

"When we found Paul there was nothing we could do for him. He was lifeless. There were other people there who had already called 9-1-1 but by the time we got there we tried to resuscitate him but there was nothing we could do but try to get people out of there," said Moore.

The fundraiser will not only help for expenses on the funeral but the community hopes to see things done differently when it comes to reporting crime in Midland.

"If you see a crime please report it. If you don't report it how are the police going to know," said Moore.

Moore added the Cytulik family is behind them and so are businesses in the community too.

"Home Depot has graciously donated several hundred dollars worth of supplies for tomorrow's events. We have Michael's Art's and Crafts who have donated a couple hundred dollars worth of supplies for tomorrow's events. Pizza Hut has donated several pizzas for the volunteers," said Moore.

Matt, the owner of Mr, Awesome's Mobile Wash said, "We will be out here tomorrow washing vehicles, donating our time and our services."

From car washes, to water balloon fights for the kids, the residents of Summerhill Apartments are trying to do the best to remember the man who they said would never hurt anyone.

"A lot of people around here miss him, they miss him dearly. I wake up in the mornings and expect to see him walking around here picking up trash and it's kind of lonely not seeing him out here," said Moore.

The car wash fundraiser will be held tomorrow from 9 am to 3 pm at 3001 North Midland Drive.
