PENWELL, TX (KWES) - The National Transportation Safety Board released a preliminary report regarding a deadly plane crash earlier this month.

The report states the airplane was registered to and operated by LM Air Patrol Service, Inc.out of Midland and no flight plan was filed the day of the crash.

The report also reiterated previous information released by the City of Midland, which claims the pilot, Clayton Chennault, was flying the aircraft without authorization and that he contacted family members saying he was going to kill himself.

Chennault was flying eastbound on June 1 when the plane struck a 138-foot tall silo at the Cemex plant in Penwell.

Chennault was the sole passenger on the aircraft and died instantly.
