ODESSA, TX (KWES) - The Ector County Independent School District is considering getting rid of corporal punishment.
Superintendent Tom Crowe said at last night's board meeting paddling needs to be done away with because it puts the employees who do the spanking at too much risk.
The change would remove corporal punishment from being a disciplinary option, as right now parents have a choice in whether their child can be paddled or not.
The board also discussed next year's budget.
Both the food service and debt service budgets could see less money, while the general fund would get an estimated $379,000.
However trustees say they are not considering raising taxes.
