ODESSA, TX (KWES) - Odessa police arrested a man after he allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend, prevented her from calling 911, refused to get into a police car, spit on an OPD officer and kicked another in the knee.
Police were called out to the 1500 block of South Texas Ave. on Saturday night for a possible stabbing.
When they arrived, they spoke to a 28-year-old woman and her ex-boyfriend, Kenneth Russ Jr., 34.
An investigation revealed that after the two got into a fight, Russ cut the woman's thigh with a knife.
Russ then pulled the woman's hair, bit her hand, threw her to the ground, pushed her onto a couch and then prevented her from calling 911 by repeatedly throwing her phone.
Police arrested Russ who forcefully used his feet to prevent officers from putting him into the patrol car.
Once at the jail, he spit on Sergeant Ryan Thomas and kicked Officer Matt Gonzalez in the kneecap, causing him bodily injury.
Russ was charged and arrested for assault on a public servant, harassment by threat, assault family violence, resisting transport and interference with an emergency telephone call.
