Texas lost a legend on Wednesday night.
Former Texas Ranger Joaquin Jackson passed away his home in Alpine after a battle with cancer.
Jackson served 27 years in Uvalde and Alpine and he retired in 2003 when he was the senior member of the elite force.
Many actors modeled characters after him including Robert Duvall who portrayed Ranger Captain Augustus McCrae in the series Lonesome Dove.
His memorial service will be on Saturday, June 25 at 1 p.m. at the Pete P. Gallego Center at Sul Ross State University in Alpine.
The family has asked to donate to Sul Ross State University or the Former Texas Ranger Foundation instead of sending flowers.
