MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - The Midland City Council will consider a resolution Tuesday that would create a Parking Enforcement Officer.

The position would be created through an agreement between the City of Midland and the Downtown Midland Management District.

The council will decide whether or not to provide funding for the position of an officer whose primary duty would be to ensure parking compliance in downtown Midland.

The DMMD would provide $67,500 for the cost of a vehicle and equipment.  There would be an additional $54,050 annually for salary and benefits for the position.

According to City of Midland Public Information Officer Sara Bustilloz, downtown businesses expressed a desire over the past few years to see more parking enforcement in the area.

Bustilloz said that even though they stepped up enforcement, one dedicated person I what is really needed to handle the issue.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. in the basement conference room of Midland City Hall.
