City of Midland begins water system maintenance

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - The City of Midland will start a flush using chlorine and ammonia to disinfect the public water supply.

Depending on where you live, you will notice some change in a week or so.

City of Midland Public Information Officer, Sara Bustilloz, said the flush is both necessary and safe but those who are on kidney dialysis will need to speak with their equipment supplier.

Bustilloz added that the water is safe for both people and animals to drink, cook and bathe in this water.

However, the chlorine can be removed by boiling the water and adding some lemon juice or by using a treatment device to reduce the chlorine levels.

The chlorine flush will last about 30 days.

Bustilloz said this is just routine upkeep of the water system.

The flush keeps residents safe from water borne illnesses, which could lead to illness and even death.
