ODESSA, TX (KWES) - Law enforcement from across West Texas took the streets Wednesday for the Special Olympics.

They kicked off the West Texas leg of the law enforcement "Torch Run."

Officers ran to the Odessa Police Department, then down Grant Avenue to Murphy Street, carrying a ceremonial torch.

The Torch Run started in 1985 where officers and athletes ran the "Flame of Hope" to the opening ceremonies for Special Olympics.

Money raised during the run goes toward keeping the Special Olympics program going.
