The day starts off muggy in the Basin, but southwesterly winds will dry out the air. Sunshine will be back and in full force in West Texas. High winds, low relative humidity, and above average temperatures increase fire danger in our far western counties of Eddy and Lea. A Red Flag Warning is in place for today. Avoid outdoor burning! Fires can start and spread easily under these conditions.
With dry air and a lot of sunshine making a comeback, temperatures will be well above the norm. Some areas will see the return of triple digit heat. Pecos will hit the century mark with some of the western Permian Basin ranging in the one hundred to one hundred and three degree mark. Areas such as Big Bend National Park can reach one hundred and seven degrees. The average high temperature for this time of year is ninety. Today will be the hottest day of the week.
