High fire danger returns for West Texas on Monday

Red flag warning until 10 pm tonight. Red flag warning until 10 pm tonight.

Fire danger is on the rise today as we are left with another warm, dry, and windy day in West Texas. Red Flag Warning is in place for all western counties in the viewing area through the evening. Avoid any outdoor burning!

Grass fires can start easily due to dry vegetation and low relative humidity of nine to fifteen percent. The spread of grass fires can happen quickly due to high winds that we are expecting today. Winds will be out of the west from twenty to thirty miles per hour with wind gusts of thirty-five. Under these conditions, blowing dust can also be problematic to visibility and driving conditions.

The heat continues for Tuesday and Wednesday. Relief is on the way for Thursday with highs only in the upper seventies and lower eighties. Next chance of rain is on Thursday.
