HOWARD COUNTY, TX (KWES) - The Howard County elections office is preparing for election day, set for Saturday, May 7.
One of the big races is the mayoral race. Current mayor, Larry McLellan will face off against Shannon Thomason.
Another hot ticket on the ballot is the sale of beer and wine in Coahoma. The city is currently dry, meaning they don't sell these beverages. This vote could change that.
Residents of Coahoma are the only ones who can vote on whether or not the city remains dry. That election will be held at the Coahoma Community Center, also on Saturday, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
All other precincts will cast their ballot at the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum on the Howard College campus in Big Spring from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Elections Administrator Saundra Bloom said no cell phones are allowed in the polling place. That includes taking selfies to post on social media and answering phone calls. This action is against the law and it distracts other voters.
