PRESIDIO COUNTY, TX (KWES) - One man was arrested following a failed drug smuggling attempt at the Presidio Port of Entry on Friday afternoon.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers made the seizure when a pickup truck towing an empty gooseneck trailer entered the port from Mexico around 12:15 p.m.

Authorities said the vehicle was referred for a thorough inspection when a CBP canine alerted to the presence of narcotics.

An X-ray was completed and showed anomalies in the frame rails.

That's when officers found 273 bundles of marijuana, weighing 283 pounds.

The driver of the vehicle, Jesus Andrews Gonzalez, 22, a Mexican national from Chihuahua City was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement HSI agents to face charges.
