HOWARD COUNTY, TX (KWES) -

Howard County Volunteer Fire Department was called out to a pulling unit well fire on Friday.

The well, located at Farm to Market 846 and North County Road 9, had been flooded due to rains in 2015 and the rig was halfway submerged for the better part of a year.

The fire happened after a casing cracked before the blowout preventer and release, sparking the fire.

As of Monday afternoon, the fire is still burning.  Howard County Volunteer Fire Department has turned over control of the situation to Diamondback Energy, who owns the property.
