REAGAN COUNTY, TX (KWES) - A Reagan County Independent School District teacher was arrested for injury to a child with intent to cause bodily injury.
Chief Deputy Destin Wilha, with the Reagan County Sheriff's office, confirmed Kristee Helton, 44, was taken into custody on Tuesday.
Authorities said were called out to an assault claim made by Helton's 14 year-old adoptive son. They found injuries to his back, shoulder and head.
Sheriff Jeff Garner of the Reagan County Sheriff's Office said, "Generally speaking, when you have a case like this especially when there's a child involved we're going to do everything we can do to make sure that child is safe."
Reagan County ISD Superintendent Steve Long said, "We've been made aware of the situation and we are handling it accordingly."
Parents weighed in on the incident as well.
Laura Torres, a parent with children in the school district said, "For something like this to happen is kind of scary."
Josie Castillo, a grandparent said, "It's ok to discipline your kids but according to what we read she went too far."
Helton has since bonded out, according to jail records. Child Protective Services placed the victim with a third party. Sheriff Garner tells NewsWest 9 the case will be brought to the District Attorney and they will decide what the next step will be.
