STANTON, TX (KWES) - The Martin County Convent board of directors have been trying for years to raise the funds to restore the historic convent.
Adobe and restoration workers from Tuscon, Arizona will travel to Stanton on Sunday and begin the renovations on Monday.
The convent held soup cook offs and clay shoots in order to raise the money for restoration.
The convent is hoping to restore the building to it's 1886 original appearance as the Carmelite Monastery and open it to the public.
According to their website, a small band of Carmelites were among the first to settle in Martin County.
