Trial date set for former Odessa missionary in abuse case

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - On June 7th, former Odessa missionary Gerald Campbell will go on trial.

He was charged with engaging in illicit sexual conduct in foreign places between 2001-2003 after he was arrested for sexually abusing 11 boys at the Victory Christian's Children Home in Malawi.

Officials say they were made aware of the allegations from a tip in 2014.

The arrest affidavit says along with overseeing the staff and assisting in daily operations at the orphanage, Campbell was also in charge of overseeing the welfare the children.

Records show Campbell abused one victim by forcing oral sex. Officials said the victim was somewhere between the age of 10-14.

In the affidavit, it said of the eleven boys Campbell admitted to having sexual contact with, he believed eight were under the age of 18.

The trial will be held in Midland. If convicted Campbell faces life in prison.
