A large tornado moved through Pecos county earlier on Tuesday afternoon. No damage was reported but now is the time to start putting together your severe weather plan. We have already seen strong storms with golf ball-sized hail, 90+ mph winds, and lots of lightning move through West Texas.
When taking shelter you need to remember the following:
- Lowest Level of the Structure
- Center Room: Put as many walls between you and the outside as possible
- No Windows: Flying debris, hail, and winds can shatter glass
When sheltering, how you dress is also important.
- Long Sleeves
- Long Pants
- Close-toe Shoes
What you shelter with can be just as important.
- First-aid Kit
- Bottles of Water
- Flashlight with extra Batteries
- Weather Radio
You also want to make sure you practice this plan with your children so they will be prepared in the event that they are alone when severe weather strikes.
