Affidavit: Odessa funeral home ring thief apologizes to family

ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

The woman arrested Tuesday after taking a ring from a corpse at an Odessa funeral home apologized to the family.

According to the arrest affidavit, Kalynn Homfeld, 41, was arrested Tuesday on charges of theft from a human corpse, which is a state jail felony.

She was arrested after several tips were received by Odessa police.

The affidavit stated that Homfeld voluntarily agreed to be interviewed by police, was read her Miranda rights and waived her right to counsel.

Police said Homfeld made voluntary statements against her legal interest and specifically apologized to the family.

If convicted, Homfeld could spend up to two years behind bars for the theft.
