ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

An Ector County grand jury cleared an Odessa Police Department officer of any wrong doing in the shooting death of Jason Meador, 50, back in March.

Officer Keith Almonte responded to Meador's home on March 16 after calls were received by Meador's family, worried he may commit suicide.

Police found Meador in the alley of Douglas Drive and Gage Avenue, dousing himself in gasoline.

It was then, police said, Meador pulled a gun and pointed it in Officer Almonte's direction. Officer Almonte fired at Meador and shot him.

Meador was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

After the shooting, Officer Almonte was placed on administrative leave while the Texas Rangers investigated.
