MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - One man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being found guilty of murdering a Midland man.
Shermon Ranson, 40, was sentenced Friday to 99 years behind bars after being found guilty of murdering Alfer Hemphill.
According to the arrest affidavit, Ranson drove two juveniles to Hemphill's apartment in the 500 block of West Cowden Ave back on May 15, 2014. Police said Hemphill handed one of the juveniles a gun and directed him to go into the courtyard and shoot into Hemphill's apartment. The 14-year-old shooter then ran out the back gate where Ranson was waiting in his car to make their getaway.
The other juvenile in the car is not facing charges at this time.
Police said the shooting was in retaliation for a suspect receiving "bad drugs" but the common denominator between everything shared was that Hemphill was not a target. He was unfortunately caught in the middle of a drug deal, which had nothing to do with him.
There's no word when the 14-year-old boy will appear in court to face murder charges.
