MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - From household items, to clothing, to family pictures, The Sutton family nearly lost everything when their house burned down but the community is helping the family quickly get back on their feet.
"We've been in Texas for not even a month and this happens," says Coby Sutton. "We just watched it burn down."
"You're watching your life, your dreams burn," said wife Amber Sutton.
The Sutton family had just moved from Utah into their new home in Midland, Texas. After their house scorched in flames, they were surprised by the community's outreach. A neighbor reached out to them and offered them a roof over their heads. An unfortunate incident that opened up a new door.
"He says, 'I know its not much, but we'd like for you to come look at it.' My husband and I were so honored that someone doesn't even know us, to make sure that we were together," said Amber.
Within ten days, the family was donated basic necessities, clothes, printed pictures, all from neighbors and volunteers.
"This community has outfitted my girls for school, the manager at Hampton Inn gave them school supplies for a whole year," said Amber.
She says even after the fire, she doesn't see her family living anywhere else.
"Everybody in Midland, please know that everything that you've done to help my family, we're so grateful. So, thank you."
For the Suttons, the community's generosity gives them hope and one step forward to making new memories.
