MIDLAND COUNTY, TX (KWES) - Five people are lucky to be alive following a large fire on Friday afternoon in Midland.

Homeowner, Amber Sutton said, "My husband looked up and screamed there's a fire in the house. We looked up and the whole upper attic looked to be full of smoke and engulfed."

The fire sparked around 5 p.m. in the 6800 block of West County Road 41, north of Highway 349.

City of Midland Public Information Officer, Sara Bustilloz said, "As soon as our first crews arrived here on scene they called it out as a two alarm fire which duplicated our efforts."

Fire officials said the blaze started on the second floor of the home by an electric heater. The family said they don't know what caused the fire because most of their belongings were still in boxes.

"I have nothing. My kids have nothing. Everything, their baby pictures. Everything we own from our whole life," said Sutton

All were able to get out the home safely and without injury. The family now looks to rebuild.

Coby Sutton said, "The only thing you can do is move forward and thank God you're family is safe."
