Former NewsWest9 General Manager to be inducted into Amarillo Racing Hall of Fame

AMARILLO, TX (KWES) - A former pillar of the Midland/Odessa community and a former General Manager at NewsWest 9 will receive quite an honor this weekend in Amarillo.

John Foster will posthumously be inducted into the Amarillo Area Racing Hall of Fame.

The ceremony will be held Saturday, March 26 at 6 p.m.

he won numerous racing championships in Odessa, Abilene and Amarillo in the 1960's and 1970's.

He also helped develop the chaparral wing of the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum, which housed race cars and owned Twin Cities Speedway.

In addition to his accomplishments in the racing world, john foster was a staple in the community, serving as chairman of the Permian Basin Private Industry Council and volunteering and supporting many organizations.

He worked many decades in local television including more than 10 years as General Manager at NewsWest 9 from 1991 until his death in 2002 at the age of 60.

We want to give a big congratulations to Mr. Foster and his family on his induction to the Amarillo Racing Hall of Fame.
