BREWSTER COUNTY, TX (KWES) - The Brewster County Sheriff's Office is asking the public to be on the lookout for scam phone calls.
The Internal Revenue Service said the phone calls come from thieves intent on stealing their money or identity.
The scammers call tax payers demanding the victim pay a tax bill.
They'll ask the victim to pay via prepaid debit card or wire transfer.
If you don't owe taxes or have a reason to think you do, don't give out any personal information and hang up immediately.
The IRS will not call you to demand a payment.
If this happens to you, report it to the Federal Trade Commission at www.ftc.gov.
