MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - At Monday night's meeting, members of the MISD school board decided to hold off on voting whether or not to take away some after school programs from Pease Academy Magnet, Bowie Fine Arts Academy and Washington Math/Science Institute. The vote would've affected after school programs from kindergarten to third grade.
Tamarah Riojas, a parent of two at Bowie said "It kills me because I don't know what to do with them. Do I need to start looking for another school? Do I need to start looking for daycare? Being a single parent having to pay for daycare for one kid is outrageous."
The board said they couldn't vote because they didn't have enough information to make a decision which would affect so many parent, teachers and students.
Laurie Sherrod, Bowie Fine Arts Academy principal said "I wasn't surprised at all. That's a big decision, it affects a lot of people."
Principals of the schools made their case why taking away some after school programs would help the overall experience at their schools. For everyone involved, they hope to have an answer at the next meeting.
"I want them to keep it the same. My daughter absolutely loves coming to this school and loves having afters school programs to go to," said Riojas.
Sherrod said the board will meet in a few weeks and make their decision then.
