Midland Chamber warns citizens about computer malware

The Midland Chamber of Commerce says at least four people's computers have been hit with ransomware.

This type of malware infects your computer, prevents you from accessing your files by encrypting them, then the hackers then ask you for a ransom. If you pay them money they will supposedly give you the key to access them.

Ransomware spreads in many ways, mostly by email attachments, but can also be opened by going to fake web pages that look legitimate.

Some of the best ways to fight it is to filter or deny executable or zip files in your email, use security software and update it and back up your data.

Contact an I.T. professional if you think you have been hacked.
