ODESSA, TX (KWES) - After hearing arguments on Thursday afternoon, District Judge Stacy Trotter lowered Khalifah Muhammad's bond from $2 million to $1 million.
Muhammad's lawyer, Jason Leach, argued the bond set was higher than most murder cases in Ector County as bond is usually $500,000.
Muhammad is accused of shooting and killing Brandon Lee Russell back in September.
It all happened at the Acacia Apartments.
Police say Muhammad called them claiming his car was being illegally re-possessed.
According to the report, dispatch said they could hear arguing over the phone.
When officers arrived, they found Russell dead with several gunshot wounds.
The report says a witness told police Muhammad became angry when Russell tried to repossess his car.
Muhammad was on the run for several days before police caught up with him at the Flying J Truck Stop.
If convicted, Muhammad faces between five to 99 years or life in prison.
