ODESSA, TX (KWES) - We're learning new details about the man who was shot following a standoff in Odessa on Thursday afternoon.

The Ector County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Jason Meador worked as a deputy on patrol and also worked at the jail from December 1989 until January 1995.

According to officials, he also worked as a reserve deputy until April 1995.

Authorities also say Meador was arrested in September 2015 for public intoxication.

When authorities arrived on the scene, Meador was found in an alley in the 1200 block of Douglas Avenue pouring gasoline on himself and was armed with a weapon.

Meador was later shot after he displayed a weapon in the direction of police.
