A recount has been requested following a close election battle for Ector County Sheriff.

Candidate Joe Commander announced on Thursday afternoon that he is requesting the recount.

Joe Commander said in a statement, “When I decided to run for Sheriff of Ector County, I made a promise that if elected, I would do my best to keep the citizens of Ector County safe and as your Sheriff, I would fight for you and the community 24 hours a day. It is because of these promises I made to my constituents, that I believe I owe it to, the more than 7,000 men and women, both young and old throughout Ector County to keep on fighting.”

On Super Tuesday, Commander lost to Mike Griffis by 45 votes.

Ector County Elections Administrator, Mitzi Scheible, said, “With this being a county-wide election, it’s probably going to take a good day and a half. What we have to do is we have to print out every ballot. You have two people who are marking and one person counting out.”

We will continue to follow this story as the recount is completed.
