ODESSA, TX (KWES) - A call about a suicidal subject in Odessa has turned deadly following an officer-involved shooting.
City of Odessa Spokeswoman, Andrea Goodson, said, authorities were called out to the 1200 block of Douglas just before 4:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon in reference to a suicidal subject.
According to Goodson, when officers arrived on the scene, they saw a man in the alley pouring gasoline on himself and was armed with a weapon.
Authorities said the man was non-compliant to the officer's commands.
Then about 30 minutes later, officials said shots were fired and the investigation is now an officer-involved shooting.
The man was later pronounced dead at an Odessa hospital but his identity has not yet been released.
Goodson stated it is unknown if the man shot himself or how many shots were fired in connection with the suicide attempt.
The Texas Rangers are investigating.
