ODESSA, TX (KWES) - Angela Arnason's ten year old son attends Sam Houston Elementary. She says he's been bullied all year and at recess last Thursday he fought back.
Angela Arnason said "He just got them off his body to go get help. My son got two days of in-school suspension."
Arnason said she didn't believe her son should have been punished so she held him out of school.
"If he was going to continue to going to school the very next day he had to be punished," said Arnason.
ECISD said there were no complaints about bullying before last Thursday's incident between the students. The district's code of conduct states everyone involved in a fight is going to face discipline.
ECISD Public Information Officer, Mike Adkins said "The point is to give a student an opportunity to walk away from a confrontation knowing they're going to face some consequences so it gives them a reason to say I'm not getting involved in this."
Adkins said the code of conduct protects the students and they are working with the family to get the situation resolved.
"What we all want is to get the student back to school and get back to normal."
Adkins said the school has taken steps to make sure the incident doesn't happen again.
