ECTOR COUNTY, TX (KWES) - Cracking down on gun violence is a top priority for the Odessa Police Department. They've joined forces with several other law enforcement agencies to make that happen.
"We're not going to tolerate here and we're doing everything that we can to put a stop to it," said Bobby Bland, District Attorney in Ector County.
Several law enforcement agencies including the FBI, the U.S. Marshals Service, Homeland Security and the Drug Enforcement Agency have joined together to crack down on gun violence.
"Robberies, assaults and murders are happening here with guns and we need to put a stop to it," said Bland.
They say gun violence has increased drastically in the past few years in Ector County.
"The level of crimes involving guns in this community is unacceptable," said Bland.
This initiative will involve targeting the worst offenders and enable prosecutions at both the state and federal level.
"If you commit a crime in Ector County with a gun, we're going to look at that and we're going to target you and do the best we can to make sure that you're removed from the streets," said Bland.
Through this joint effort, all of the agencies taking part will collaborate on a weekly basis to talk about how they can put the worst offenders of gun violence behind bars.
