High fire danger returns to West Texas

High fire danger returns to West Texas

High fire danger is a growing concern for the western counties of West Texas. A Red Flag Warning is in place for this afternoon for the Guadalupe and Davis Mountains as well as the Van Horn corridor.

Red Flag Warnings are set when above average temperatures, gusty winds, and low relative humidity add to the danger of grass fires sparking. The gusty winds and dry vegetation fuel the fires and allow them to spread quickly. Temperatures will warm into the 80s, relative humidity will be around ten percent, and winds will gust close to thirty-five miles per hour.

Avoid outdoor burning or any activities that may produce sparks.
