MITCHELL COUNTY, TX (KWES) - A candidate on the ballot is in trouble with the law.
The Mitchell County Tax Assessor-Collector is accused of stealing county property.
Sylvia Clanton is out of jail after posting bond.
The indictment stated that Clanton took a table and chairs valued between $50 to $500 back in Sept. 2015.
Clanton is charged with theft of property by a public servant, which is a misdemeanor.
The sheriff says Clanton turned herself in on February 19, a day after being indicted by a grand jury.
The sheriff says the case had to go to a grand jury because she is a public servant.
Clanton is running unopposed on Republican ticket.
