PECOS COUNTY, TX (KWES) - The current 83rd District Attorney, Rod Ponton began his term January 2013. He is now running for re-election but has two others vying for the same spot.
Sandy Wilson is one of the candidates vying for Ponton's spot.
Wilson's Facebook page says she is the owner of her own private practice, Wilson Law Firm since 2009.
Wilson has two years of experience as the 83rd Judicial Assistant District Attorney in Pecos County. Before then, she worked as an Attorney for a Law Firm in Odessa, Texas for about four years.
Wilson has her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and English from UTPB and her Juris Doctorate in Law from Thurgood Marshall School of Law.
Jaime Escuder is the Democratic candidate hoping to get the title of 83rd District Attorney.
Escuder's official website says he has been practicing law for over a decade before moving to Texas he was a Deputy Chief Public Defender in Illinois, here he had his own felony cases and supervised lawyers in the misdemeanor division.
On Escuder's website he said if he is elected 83rd District Attorney he is confident he has the skills and experience to handle any type of case that may come in the door.
Escuder holds a degree from The University of Chicago Law School.
ROD Ponton is the incumbent running for re-election, he has been the 83rd District Attorney since January 1, 2013 serving Brewster, Jeff Davis, Pecos, and Presidio Counties.
Ponton's Facebook page says he is the former Alpine and Presidio City Attorney.
Ponton is a practicing lawyer for 33 years and a prosecutor for 7 years.
The State Bar of Texas named Ponton Criminal Defense Lawyer of the Year in 1987.
Ponton was raised in Alpine, Texas, he graduated from the University of Texas and Texas Tech Law School.
The last day for early voting is Friday, March 26, 2016. Election Day is Tuesday, March 2, 2016.
