Fire weather is a growing concern today due to dry, warm, and windy weather.
A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Eddy and Lea county as well as the Guadalupe Mountains until 7 p.m. CST. Relative humidity is expected to be less than ten percent at times with winds out of the southwest between fifteen and twenty-five miles per hour. Gusts of thirty to forty miles per hour cannot be ruled out. Add in the well-above average temperatures and it creates the perfect environment for dry vegetation to catch fire. With the high winds, grass fires can quickly spread.
While the rest of West Texas is not under a warning, precaution should still be taken. Most counties in our viewing area will experience warm, windy, and dry weather. Blowing dust cannot be ruled out. Avoid outdoor burning and any activities that create sparks.
