Woman held hostage by boyfriend in Odessa

ODESSA, TX (KWES) - An Odessa woman was tied up with tape and her mouth, feet and hands were all bound.

Police say her boyfriend held her hostage for a day. Andy Hernandez, 30, is now behind bars.

The woman tried to escape from the home where he was holding her hostage several times but Hernandez physically stopped her. He then stayed by her side and watched over her the rest of the night. The next afternoon, Hernandez decided they needed to go to the store.

"While they were driving to the store, she attempted to call 911. She grabbed his cell phone and attempted to call 911, he grabbed the phone from her and covered her mouth to stop her from screaming," said Steve LeSueur with the Odessa Police Department.

That's when Hernandez pulled over and the woman was able to jump out of the car and run to a nearby business. Hernandez then took off but not for long.

"While police were on scene investigating the incident, Hernandez returned to the scene," said LeSueur.

That's when police captured Hernandez and arrested him. The woman was left with only minor injuries. Authorities searched the home where she was held hostage. An investigation is still underway.
