ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

An arrest has been made in connection to an abused puppy who later died.

It turns out, the person arrested was the woman who filed the report.

Sara Losoya, 44, was arrested and charged with false report to a police officer.

Last week, Losoya reported to animal control she found the puppy in the 4700 block of Golder and put it in her yard to keep it.

She said it smelled like it was in lighter fluid and seemed to be severely injured.

Detectives say she admitted she made up the story about where she found it and admitted her dogs nipped at the puppy while it was in her yard.

The puppy, named Penelope died over the weekend.

Police say it's still unclear how the puppy sustained its injuries.

Losoya is behind bars for giving a false report to a police officer, if she faces any animal cruelty charges she can be fined up to $10,000 and two years in jail.
