Fire weather concern for West Texas
Wind Alerts until 9 p.m.
Wind Alerts until 9 p.m.

Fire weather concerns grow this afternoon due to windy, warm, and dry conditions. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for the counties of Borden, Scurry, Martin, Howard, Mitchell, Ector, Midland, Glasscock, Presidio Valley, Marfa Plateau, Big Bend, Pecos and Terrell until 6 p.m. This means that any fires that develop will spread quickly due to dry vegetation and high winds. Any outdoor burning is discouraged for today. Try to avoid any activities that produce sparks or flames for your safety and for the safety of those around you.

Wind alerts are also in effect for this afternoon. High Wind Warning is in effect until 9 p.m. for the western counties for wind gusts over 80 mph. A Wind Advisory is in effect for the eastern portion of the viewing area until 9 p.m. for wind gusts over 40 mph. This can cause issues with travel. Take caution if traveling north-south bound because high profile vehicles can easily sway. Blowing dust will also be of concern since it will lower visibility at times.

Cooler, dry weather is expected for the middle part of the week. Winds will calm overnight.
