Fire weather watch across the basin

Fire weather watch across the basin

Across parts of west Texas and some areas in New Mexico, there are some fire warnings you need to know about.

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for more than a dozen counties.

That means the current weather conditions have brought on critical fire danger.

The counties under this fire watch include Midland and Odessa, Big Spring, Lamesa, Snyder, Big Lake, Fort Stockton, Pecos, Van Horn, Alpine, Presidio, Panther Junction, Sanderson, and over in New Mexico, Hobbs, Tatum, Carlsbad, Artesia, and Roswell.

Everyone is advised not to burn and avoid outdoor activities that might produce sparks or flames and don't throw cigarettes out of a moving vehicle.

The National Weather Service says any fires that do start up will likely spread quickly spread.

This severe fire danger is brought on by the warm temperatures and dry conditions, but the fire watch is especially critical because of the high wind speeds we've been seeing over the past couple of days.
